Plot
In the year 872, the various small kingdoms that made up England at the time are in a constant state of attack by Viking invaders, including the Danes. King Alfred rules Wessex and is among the last hold-out for British Anglo-Saxons. Meanwhile, young Uhtred finds himself torn by history -- he was born a Saxon but raised a Dane after being kidnapped as a boy. A fierce fighter, Uhtred feels compelled to recapture his murdered father’s Saxon stronghold, Bebbanburg, a land that's his birthright. However, he also nurtures alliances and shares a culture with the Danes who raised him.
