In the aftermath of World War I, the grandeur of the Bannerman family's Grand Hotel re-emerges from the ashes, its doors reopening after a lengthy closure and an expensive renovation. The hotel, a longstanding family legacy, is now the responsibility of John Bannerman and his wife Sarah, who are fervently determined to revive its former glory. Their son Stephen, a war veteran physically unscathed yet haunted by the mental specters of his fallen comrades, returns home to support the family endeavor. However, when their accountant's deception leaves them financially crippled, they are left with no choice but to turn to John's estranged brother, Marcus.
