Physicists Sheldon and Leonard are geniuses in the field of physics, but they aren't nearly so competent at navigating social circumstances. And while Sheldon suffers from especially bad autism, both men have difficulties interacting with the opposite sex. That's true of their whole group of friends, but they find a new opportunity to improve their social capabilities when a beautiful aspiring actress moves across the street. Penny is working as a waitress while she tries to break out in the field, but she'll open up a whole new world of opportunities to the good-intentioned but awkward nerds living next door.
