Society as we know it has collapsed after the arrival of a deadly virus, and the few humans that have survived the decade since have reverted back to a more natural lifestyle and are forced into subsistence living. At the same time that the virus hit, there's a rash of strange births where the babies possess both human and animal features. These hybrids are treated with fear by most humans, but young half-deer hybrid Gus will need to cut his way through miles of danger if he wants to find his mother in Colorado. He'll form a tenuous alliance with a mysterious wanderer along the way.
