Plot
The appearance of devices known as Stargates change the vectors for national and international defense completely. These portals can serve as gateways between realities, and many of these possess warlike and even godlike entities. It's believed that these Stargates are the source of much of world mythology, and SG-1 is formed as a way to explore these worlds and develop both the knowledge and defenses they need to defend Earth from incursions. So the diverse group of agents sets out into uncharted worlds with the task of mapping out these Stargates and determining the full scale of these connected dimensions.
