Plot

In the pulsating heart of 1980s London, the audacious DCI Gene Hunt has swapped the grimy streets of Manchester for the glitz and grime of the capital. Backed by his unwavering comrades, Ray Carling and Chris Skelton, he's resolved to combat the villainy of the south. However, his world is thrown off balance by the arrival of the sharp-witted, alluring DI Alex Drake, a single mother and rising star in the Met. In the 2008 reality, Alex's prowess in psychological profiling has made her a formidable force against crime. A terrifying incident, following her and her daughter's abduction, catapults Alex back in time to 1981. In this bewildering reality, she encounters characters vividly familiar, not just from her own life, but from the intricate case files meticulously documented by Sam Tyler—files she had spent endless hours scrutinizing. Thrust from her 2008 world of gender equality and professional respect, Alex lands in the thick of the vibrant, yet brash '80s London, complete with a soundtrack of Adam Ant, Roxy Music and the Human League setting the tone. The swaggering DCI proves a stark contrast to her modern sensibilities. As she navigates this new world, she discovers some of Gene's team has scattered, while others remain steadfastly loyal. Among them are tech-savvy DC Chris Skelton and the nightlife-loving DS Ray Carling, both adjusting to the city's fast pace. The tension between Alex and Gene crackles in the air, their stubbornness clashing in a battle of wits and will. Yet beneath the professional friction, an undercurrent of something more begins to surface, adding another layer of intrigue to their complex relationship. As they grapple with their differences, they also have to face a city teeming with crime, and a mystery that's bigger than both of them.
