This dark exploration of the superhero genre imagines an alternate version of 1985 where superhumans have been putting on costumes and fighting crime for decades. It's a history where the Cold War was made all the more tense by a superhuman arms race and America's most recognized team of vigilantes disbanded years prior under the threat of jail time. Each of the members of Watchmen have gone their separate ways in the intervening years — but when a former member of the team dies, his compatriot Rorschach investigates. What he discovers is a global conspiracy that could lead to a full-on apocalypse.
