The Tree of Life (2011)

Jack O'Brien's formative early years were spent in the suburbs of Waco, Texas in the 1950s. His relationship with his father was troubled and violent, and his entire upbringing was informed by a strong sense of Christian mysticism. As an adult, he's constantly trying to find some sense of greater meaning in his ordinary life and contextualizing it in terms of Biblical stories. Jack strives to be a member of modern society, but he finds his soul bending to old traditions — and he finds himself looking back at the sharp spikes of violence that have become defining factors in his life.
