Plot

In the serene heart of rural England, a tale of silent struggle and profound transformation unfolds. The Silent Child spins a poignant narrative inspired by true events, centering on four-year-old Libby. Born profoundly deaf into a middle-class family, this youngest daughter navigates a silent world that's on the precipice of change. Her parents, Sue and Paul, are relentlessly busy, lost in the whirlwind of life's demands. As Libby stands on the threshold of a significant milestone - her first school experience - they enlist the aid of Joanne, a compassionate social worker. Joanne, with her heart full of empathy and wisdom, steps into the family's life to guide Libby through this critical transition. An immediate bond sparks between Joanne and Libby, a connection that transcends spoken words. As Joanne begins to teach Libby British Sign Language, she offers the little girl more than a new means of communication; she gives her a doorway to the world. The Silent Child thus chronicles a journey - of a little girl from isolation to expression, and of a family learning the language of understanding and love.
