Plot

Andrew Beckett is an associate at a high-powered Philadelphia firm whose career appears to have nowhere to go but up. However, Beckett is a closeted gay man who contracts AIDS. Beckett is subsequently fired from the firm, with the firm blaming the termination on his failure to file paperwork, botching a case. Beckett, however, believes that he was fired because the firm discovered his HIV-positive status and subsequently sues the firm, using attorney Joe Miller to sue him. The film explores Miller and Beckett's suit while also evaluating the stigma and discrimination that gay men and HIV-positive individuals faced in the 1990s.
