Plot
Bookish Gabriella Montez has an unforgettable New Year's Eve where she meets and sings with Troy Bolton. Then the new semester starts, and she finds herself at a new school. Unbeknownst to her, Troy is the star basketball there, and the son of the head coach, who sees no need for a life outside the sport. Will they both be able to 'break free' of expectations while performing in their school's musical? Maybe if they can avoid Sharpay and Ryan, the wannabe stars, and get their friends to help them, with some songs and dancing thrown in for good measure.
