Galaxy Quest (1999)

"Galaxy Quest" was a beloved TV show a couple of decades ago. Now, its stars do the science fiction convention circuit, unable to find other acting jobs. When a group approaches one of the stars and says they need his help, he thinks he's agreeing to make a promotional appearance. What he doesn't realize is that an alien race has received the TV show, and assuming it was a documentary, they have built their civilization around its values. Now they are under attack from an evil warlord, and they are sure the cast of "Galaxy Quest" can save them.
