17 year-old, Elio, living in the pastoral splendour of rural Lombardy in the north of Italy in the 1980s, is initially put off by a 24 year-old grad student, Oliver, that his professor father has hired as an assistant and has invited to stay for the summer. Soon, though, Elio finds himself falling for Oliver as sparks fly and romance blooms between the two.
