In the heart of Athens, the iron-fisted ruler Theseus prepares to wed his captive prize, the fierce Amazonian queen Hippolyta, in a marriage of political convenience. Amidst the city's tumult, a defiant Hermia faces death for rejecting a proposed alliance with Demetrius, choosing rather to elope with her true beloved, Lysander.
