A History of Violence (2005)

Tom Stall owns a diner in a small Midwestern town. He is happily married with two small children. One day, he stops a pair of robbers who threaten his customers by fighting back unexpectedly well. Tom becomes a local hero, but he's uncomfortable with all the media attention and longs to return to his quiet, anonymous life. A few weeks later, a mysterious, threatening man arrives in town. The man claims to have known Tom when they were members of a criminal gang, but Tom insists it's a case of mistaken identity. Is he right, or is there more to this quiet man than meets the eye?
